Why is it called a "Durable Power of Attorney"?

Power of Attorney - like other legal documents - may be executed only when you are mentally competent. But, what happens if you later become mentally incompetent (e.g. coma, dementia, etc.)? Does that negate the POA? Not if it is durable. So, this is a very good thing.
